Tremaine Wright Announces New Endorsement for New York State Senate.
District Council 37AFSCME AFL-CIO is New York’s largest public Employee Union.  AFSCME fights to promote freedom and opportunity for all working people, wherever, and whoever, they are.

Brooklyn, NY - Tremaine Wright, candidate for New York State Senate, today announced a new endorsement from District Council 37 AFSCME AFL-CIO is New York’s largest public employee union.

“I am honored to have the support of District Council 37 during this campaign. The union is committed to building and strengthening New Yorkers by advocating for opportunity and equality. I believe in social activism to help build a better community for our families and our children.  I believe in homeownership for all, every New Yorker deserves an opportunity to plan for a better tomorrow.   As the only woman in the New York State Senate race and a former small business owner, I am a champion for all working people to own and live their dreams.”  said Tremaine Wright.

“We are proud to support Tremaine Wright in her campaign for NYS Senate for the 25th District”, said Henry Garrido, Executive Director of District Council 37.  “Tremaine is a proven fighter and with her in the State Senate, we can make real progress on the issues that matter most: creating and maintaining affordable housing, securing adequate funding for public schools and strengthening workers’ rights.”

A native of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Wright is an attorney and a former small business owner. She is an organizer of the Tompkins Avenue Merchants Association, a volunteer attorney for VOLS and the New York City Bar Association's Neighborhood Entrepreneur Law Project; and for 10 years she owned and operated Common Grounds A Neighborhood Coffee House. Wright is currently serving in her second term in the New York State Assembly and is Chair of the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus.

Wright, candidate for the 25th State Senate district, is running to succeed Sen. Velmanette Montgomery, who announced in January her retirement from the New York State Senate. The district includes parts of Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, Gowanus, Red Hook, Ft. Green, Prospect Heights, Ocean Hill, Crown Heights, and Bed-Stuyvesant. Tremaine Wright is the only woman in the primary for the 25th State Senate district.

Wright is running to preserve the rich legacy of community and to build a strong foundation for the future. Wright has received endorsements from

Congressman Hakeem Jefferies, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke,  Senator Velmanette Montgomery, former Assembly member Hon. Annette  M. Robinson, and each Assembly Member representing the 25th district:  Assembly Member Felix Ortiz, Assembly member Jo Anne Simon, Assembly Member Walter Mosley, Assembly Member Latrice Walker and Assembly member Diana Richardson.

The Democratic primary election will take place on Tuesday, June 23. Early voting is currently scheduled to begin on June 13th
