CWA, District 1 Endorses Tremaine Wright for NYS Senate

Brooklyn, NY - Tremaine Wright, candidate for New York State Senate, today announced a new endorsement from the Communication Workers of America (“CWA”) District 1. CWA is a union representing 700,000 workers in the private and public sector employment, in sectors such as telecommunications and information technology, the airline industry, news media, broadcast and cable television, healthcare, public service and education, law enforcement, manufacturing and other fields.
According to Ms. Wright, “I am honored to have the support of CWA District 1. The union is committed to protecting the lives of working and middle class workers in New York, and I am proud to have their support as I fight for improving the lives of working families in my community.” Dennis Trainor, Vice President for CWA District 1, states, “CWA District 1 is proud to back Tremaine Wright in her bid for NYS Senate for the 25th District. A native of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Wright is currently serving in her second term in the NYS Assembly and is Chair of the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus. She is an attorney and a former small business owner. She is an organizer of the Tompkins Avenue Merchants Association, a volunteer attorney for VOLS and the New York City Bar Association's Neighborhood Entrepreneur Law Project; and for 10 years she owned and operated Common Grounds A Neighborhood Coffee House.
Wright, the only woman candidate for the 25th State Senate district, is running to succeed Sen. Velmanette Montgomery, who announced in January her retirement from the New York State Senate. The district includes parts of Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, Gowanus, Red Hook, Ft. Green, Prospect Heights, Ocean Hill, Crown Heights, and Bed-Stuyvesant.
Wright has received endorsements from Congressman Hakeem Jefferies, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, Senator Velmanette Montgomery, former Assembly member Hon. Annette M. Robinson, and each Assembly Member representing the 25th district: Assembly Member Felix Ortiz, Assembly member Jo Anne Simon, Assembly Member Walter Mosley, Assembly Member Latrice Walker and Assembly member Diana Richardson.
The Democratic primary election will take place on Tuesday, June 23. Early voting is currently scheduled to begin on June 13th.
